Tuesday evening saw the return of the brilliant and prestigious British Fashion Awards, which took place at The Savoy hotel, London, which I was lucky enough to attend. It truly was a fabulous evening jam packed with some of the most iconic names from the British Fashion industry as well as some more recent newcomers, which paid a well deserved homage to their incredible talents and contributions to British fashion. The evening was hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Gemma Arterton, where a total of 14 awards were presented to the industry's finest; with highly respected figures including industry leaders, models, celebrities, retailers and media making up the star studded audience.
Stella McCartney was named Designer of the Year, which is the highest accolade to receive at the awards, as well as taking home the Designer Brand award on behalf of her dedicated team and iconic label. Watch her being presented the award by the gorgeous Salma Hayek here.
Harold Tillman CBE, Chairman of the British Fashion Council, commented,“The British Fashion Awards are a significant event which represent the culmination of extraordinary talent, creativity and innovation across the whole industry. The ceremony provides the perfect conclusion to what has been an exceptional year for British fashion and we're very proud to celebrate the achievements of all the nominees here this evening.”
The ever charming Manolo Blahnik (CBE) was presented the Outstanding Achievement in Fashion award, for his continuous impact on the global fashion industry and his extraordinary career to date.
Cara Delevingne picked up the Model of the year award, which recognised her outstanding contribution to not just British fashion, but to the International fashion scene over the last year. Watch below one of my all time favourite photographers, Ellen Von Unwerth, present Cara with the award, followed by her acceptance speech.
Other awards presented were: The Red Carpet award to Roksanda Ilincic, The British Style award decided entirely by the public went to Alexa Chung, recognising her style credentials for the third year running, The New Establishment award was presented to the highly acclaimed and massively talented Erdem, the Emerging Talent award (ready-to-wear) went to J.W. Anderson, the Emerging Talent award (Menswear) was given to Jonathon Saunders and Emerging Talent award (Accessories) went to Sophie Hulme. Professor Louise Wilson OBE received the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, Kim Jones was honored the Menswear Designer of the Year for Louis Vuitton, and the Accessories award went to Nicholas Kirkwood for his iconic shoe designs and internationally acclaimed business.
