Valentino: Master of Couture Exhibition at Somerset House

Last weekend I attended the fabulous Valentino exhibition at Somerset House. I was absolutely blown away, firstly at the sheer number of dresses on display, but mostly at the incredible craftmanship and painstaking detail and skill that had so clearly gone into every aspect of each and every single couture piece being displayed. These were quite simply, the most beautiful, intricate and magical pieces I had ever seen first hand. What I was witnessing before my eyes was not just fashion, or even haute couture, but in actual fact, art, in all it's glory. I also loved the intimate display of some of the newspaper cuttings, invites and thank you letters from some of the industry's royalty and elite fashion publications such as Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, the Times, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue to name but a few. Alongside this were also some of Valentino's personal sketches of his designs with fabric samples, and finally a film about his career to date and an insight into his relationship with Giancarlo Giammetti, which was played on a loop. This exhibition is an absolute must for any lover of anything beautiful, especially high end couture; it is on until the 3rd March (my birthday!), take a look at the Somerset House website for info & enjoy!

(note: please excuse the photo quality; as usual photos were forbidden so I had to be a tad sneaky with my trusty Iphone camera- the pictures truly do not do the pieces justice!)

Have you been to the exhibition? What did you think? As always I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments x
