They Call me Mellow Yellow

I love wearing yellow in the summer, whether it's look-at-me neon, pretty buttercup, muted mustard or subtle lemon - I love all shades of the zesty hue! So I wanted to create a little inspiration board to inspire others to be brave and add a little burst of life into their days; whether it be through fashion, jewellery, art or interiors - you never know until you try! Hopefully this post will entice Mr. Sunshine to rear his pretty head so I can actually start wearing some yellow instead of longingly looking at it's glow throughout my wardrobe...

Thoughts on the colour?

Royal Ascot Outfit of the Day 2013

I have had a few comments from lovely readers as to whether I would be posting a 'What I wore to Ascot' - and the answer is yes, but of course! The above picture is of my carefully selected items laid out ready in preparation the night before. I had some mild niggly doubts about whether I would enjoy the day as much as I did last year, without the copious amounts of champers being allowed to be consumed; but I really did have such a wonderful time with great friends and a brilliant atmosphere! I particularly liked being there on the opening day, as it was so chilled and much less busy than going on Ladies Day the previous year which, when with bump, made it all the more relaxing. I think I will be making sure it is an annual event I attend from now on; and what better excuse could one possibly have to have to go out and buy a new outfit eh!?

What I'm Wearing: Neon yellow blazer: H&M, coral bodycon pencil dress: Topshop, suede shoes: Next, hat: Thrifted, YSL earrings (faux): eBay, necklace: Vintage (was my Nans), bag: Calvin Klein.

Did anyone else go to the races and were there any lucky winners?

Royal Ascot Style Inspiration

On Tuesday I was off to the races for the opening day of Royal Ascot for the second year running. I had so much fun last year after experiencing it for the first time and getting all dressed up, that I couldn't wait to do it all again; there's just one substantial difference this time round...I had a 6 month baby bump to work round! It wasn't too much of the mammoth task as I thought it might, as I am lucky with the fact my bump is still fairly modest. Therefore I was able to root around in my wardrobe and find a lovely little coral bodycon number, that had only been worn once before for a couple of hours, (as I said in a previous post, I've turned into quite a thrifty dresser as of late, to save my pennies for all things cute and teeny tiny!) picked up a good as new hat in a charity shop and finished my look off with subtle gold jewellery and a coral lip.

As I did last year, I wanted to create some outfit inspiration to show the array of styles, colours and patterns to choose from if anyone is struggling with deciding on their Ascot style. Now the pieces I have chosen are quite pricey, but remember, you don't have to spend a fortune on your outfit; get creative and have a rummage round some charity shops, I guarantee you'll be amazed at some of the gems hiding among the dusty old books and chintzy crockery!

Fairy Clocks and Rosebud Romancing

I was inspired by all things English Rose and countryside-esque with this outfit, after creating this inspiration moodboard and wanted to make use of our beautifully overgrown back garden before my little Brother cut down all the pretty fairy clocks! So out I went for a blissfully peaceful afternoon reading a good old Cecilia Ahern novel, with the cat occasionally stopping by for company.
What I'm Wearing: Cropped roses jumper & rose printed min skirt: Both Topshop, floral necklace: Primark.

Summer Summer Summertimeee...

These pictures are from a few weekends ago after spending a leisurely afternoon at one of my favourite pubs in Basingstoke, Bartons Mill. It is the most idyllic setting when the sun's shining, what with the ducks frolicking happily, swans gracefully gliding along the water with the sun bouncing off the ripples they make, and willows weeping beautifully; it is more than easy to while away a good few hours just basking in the peace and tranquility of it all.

What I'm Wearing: Floral printed shift dress: H&M, apple green short sleeved waterfall cardi: Thrifted, lilac jewelled sandals: Carvella at Kurt Geiger

Outfit of the Day: 'Rosy Posy'

The matching necklace and earrings set I'm wearing here, were a gift from my Dad bought back from his holidays in Lanzarote. It was a really sweet and thoughtful present, as the stone it is made from is called Peridot and he had enquired about it and wrote me a little note taking information from his guide book about the semi-precious stone. This is what the guide book stated:

"Peridot: A semi-precious stone that is also called Olivine, and ranges in colour from olive to lime green. It is the August birthstone and is believed to bring good luck. Peridot necklaces and bracelets are sold all over the island of Lanzarote. The stones used to be called Evening Emeralds, and it is said that the crusaders who found them around the Red Sea, believed they were Emeralds and brought them back home to adorn churches. Found in volcanic lava."

Another little interesting fact about the stones, is that they are cold to the touch whatever the weather, due to their volcanic heritage!

Under the Lilac Tree

Strangely I think I would regard purple as being my least favourite colour when it comes to clothes; but lilac on the other hand, I simply adore! Now the weather has turned it's back on us once again and it's all gone a little dreary, I dug out a few of my more Autumnal clothes to dress according to the weatherman's preferences. In doing so I came across this very unique beaded skirt from Morgan, which I got for a mere couple of pounds in a charity shop a while ago, and thought it was the perfect item for a slightly chilly morning in June. I teamed it with this quirky monochrome blouse which was also a charity shop bargain and silver metallic biker jacket I picked up years ago at an Arcadia sample sale, to tie in with the black detail on the skirt.
What I'm Wearing: Silver metallic jacket: Arcadia sample sale, monochrome blouse, Morgan de toi felt embellished skirt: both Thrifted.

An old moodboard I had created for a University project dedicated to the colour.

A little lilac inspiration for you...
