Yesterday I was invited by the lovely ladies at Next HQ along to their A/W 14 press day, held at the very swanky One Embankment. The collection included everything from Womens & Menswear, to Kids and homeware for the upcoming seasons. Of course it wouldn't be a press event without trays of yummy canapes & cakes being served, along with some delicious ginger cocktails. After snapping our favourite pieces and having a mingle, bloggers and press were able to head on upstairs to the 'beauty area', for a bit of pampering with a choice of a manicure, massage, eyebrow threading or a little hair pick me up with a blow dry. I don't usually ever get anything done when I go to an event, as I always take so long ogling all the pretty things, but this time I gave myself a time limit for picture taking to make use of the pampering on offer.
I'm not usually a big one for monochrome trends, but lately I have been getting more into it, so this particular collection caught my eye. Also because of the different textures of lace and quilting of some of the garments it adds more interest to your usual tailored work wear. They also had their signature style of dresses and abstract/ floral printed blouses, which has been inspired by the Bauhaus in Code Navy, as well as adding a bit of glamour with embellished neck lines on tops and metallic knits.
I find Next do embellishement really well, adding just the right amount onto an item to inject a bit of glitz and glam, but without ever going OTT.
This was of course my favourite trend from the whole collection: pastels! Luxe Coccon adapts to the seasonal change by introducing heavier fabrics along with detailing playing a vital role, with intricate embellishments and lace. I've seen from quite a few A/W collections that pastels are here to stay for the next season, with a lot of emphasis on coloured faux fur, as well as coats and jackets following on from the huge popularity of the pink coat from last year; now we are seeing variations in powder blues, lilacs, apple greens and even lemon. I am obviously delighted that I can still rock my pastels come the colder months!
The outwear collection has something for everyone, ranging from cute pastel duffle coats, to luxurious leather jackets and glamorous fur. Shearling is also set to make a comeback which can be seen throughout their Nordic Charm collection, but by the looks of these pieces, with a much more refined look - think cocoon coats, biker jackets and gilets.
Since getting older and growing up, Next clothing is now very appealing to me as a customer, but I have always been in awe of their shoes and accessories from a young age when my Mum used to take me shopping in there, (undoubtedly for childrens clothes - but I'd always lurk around the jewellery stands and footwear!) So it's no wonder I'm a little bit obsessed with this collection; jewelled heels and boxy clutches are perfect for Christmas parties, while pastel and neutral leather totes and accessories add a softer touch, and metallic, snakeskin and suede really gives that Autumnal feel. Next are one of my favourite places for quality leather boots during those colder months, and their latest additions are no exception. They've really got it covered for any style: barely there sandals are still a staple, along with loafers and brogues and chunky block heels. It's almost got me all excited for Winter and Christmas parties now - which is crazy considering we've barely had a sign of Summer yet!
For this event I have decided to stagger the images into three separate posts (womenswear, home & kids) as there are a lot of photos, so it just breaks it up a tad. Home and kidswear are soon to follow this!
Thanks again to the team at Next, I had such a fab day!
