Today's outfit is hugely inspired by the 'Haute Bohemian' trend that pops up every now and then, and is in full swing again now. Think fur, print, texture, loose and flowing fabrics, sumptuous materials combined with raw and natural fibres...rich, jewel tones juxtaposed with rustic neutrals, intricate embellishments, floor length duster coats and wide brimmed floppy hats...and then throw it all together! Haute Bohemian is a much more luxe and 'polished' take on the hippie, boho vibe that usually comes around each festival season. Designers well known for featuring the Haute Bohemian trend among their collections are Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and Alberta Ferretti, among others.
A boutique brand well known for their slightly ethnic inspired clothing that is full of vibrant colour and quirky designs, is Yumi. I was asked by them to pick 2 items to style into an outfit, and my eye was immediately drawn to this stunning grey embellished shift dress. I knew I wanted to team it with an outerwear piece as the dress is sleeveless and it is just too damn cold to be wandering around and taking photos without layers! I was stuck for choice between a few styles, but eventually decided on this long faux fur jacket as that's when inspiration struck, and I thought it would work really well with the dress to convey that Bohemian vibe. When the coat arrived I saw that it was quite a 'shaggy' faux fur, which isn't very noticeable online, but I was actually really pleased as that style fits in much better with the trend I was planning to emulate; think back to the fur trims of hippie afghan coats and it's not a sleek and shiny style, it's a rough and ready, gypsy traveller kind of look! I accessorised the outfit with a black floppy hat for that traditional boho look, and a pair of suede over the knee black boots, to add a bit of 70's glam.
