Giambattista Vali SS15 Couture Show - My Favourite Looks

Giambattista Vali SS15 Couture show, fashion, catwalk, SS15, haute couture, fashion week, designer, vogue
One of my all time favourite designers is Giambattista Vali; the Italian designer just gets it so right every season, encompassing pure femininity with luxe embellishment. This Couture collection featured frills in abundance, mostly seen defining shoulders and adorning sleeves. Nature seemed to be a strong influence for his designs, with motifs of flowers, trees and petals. I absolutely adored the colour palette of this collection: beginning with bold monochrome which led into the prettier pinks and florals, then transitioning to pure whites with a hint of citrus yellow, until an explosion of fondant frills in soft pink, raspberry and apple for the finale. I've pulled together my favourite looks - but in all honesty I could have easily just put the whole sequence up, as I'm just in love with it all! See all the looks from the Couture show here.

5 Things That Make me Happy #2

So it's a few days later than I had intended for this post to go up, but here is my list of 5 things that made me happy from last week, continuing on from the previous week's post which you can see here, to read what this is all about and why I'm doing it, if you missed that post. So let's get cracking...

Things that have made me :) and/ or be thankful for:

1. Sitting down on Monday evening to a clean and tidy house, Bubba in bed from 6.30pm to have some well deserved 'me' time, with a Cuppa and my remaining Lindt Lindors from Christmas (yes I still have chocolate left over...I'm a terrible hoarder when it comes to the brown stuff...that sounds wrong...I mean chocolate, obviously)

2. I unintentionally spent a good hour scrolling through my Facebook album of Theo's 1st Birthday, happily reminiscing about what a brilliant day it was and how happy he and everyone else was that day. Such a beautiful memory.

3. Such a silly, small thing, but I had to pop out to post a parcel at work on Wednesday - I never usually go out at lunch as I work a 6 hour day so just tend to eat at my desk, but Starbucks was right next to the post office so I decided to treat myself to a Panini and an almond hot choccie -SO good! Also, I was given a smiley face on my cup, so that made me even more happy - simple things :)

4. Something I very rarely do but when I do, always say I should do it more, is having a good old natter to a friend over the phone of an evening. I caught up with one of my dearest and oldest friends, Franki, for a catch up on Thursday evening and it was so lovely.

5. The weekend. Dan and I went to the football (toddler free, yay!) to watch the Saints v. Crystal Palace on Saturday which was fun, and I took Theo down to Southsea on Sunday to visit my lovely friend Becks for a catch up and of course, some cake from the amazing 10th hole cafĂ© - if anyone lives down Portsmouth way, or even just fancies somewhere new to try, I highly recommend there - they have an amazing selection of fresh cakes, cheesecakes, tarts and sponges! This time we both went for the Caramel Rolo sponge, which was heaven.
Looking back on this post, I feel that last week's happiness was heavily influenced by naughty food....hmmmm....

Christian Dior SS15 Couture Runway Show - My Favourite Looks

London Fashion Week is just around the corner (so I really better start prepping!), but I do love to ogle over the couture collections before hand. Dior is always one of my favourite couture shows, Raf Simons never disappoints when it comes to ultimate glamour with a twist. This collection conveyed a real sense of modernism, displayed with luxurious and sumptuous fabrics. Key shapes were evident in the form of printed and glitterati catsuits, full skirted ballerina dresses and cut away shift dresses. The footwear of choice were latex 'legging' type boots in vibrant, primary colours and ankle boots with Perspex heels. Pattern consisted of bold stripes and floral designs interspersed with lace applique.

Weekly Instagram Round Up

Hello and Happy Friday! So this week's 'weekly' Instagram round up is actually the first one this month, so it's more of a 3 weekly round up...I had about 20 other images I wanted to put in as well, but I've whittled down the best bits of this month so far. My plan was to do this weekly, as I personally quite like being a little nosey when other bloggers have produced similar content to this, so thought it might be quite nice for some of you to see what I've been up to if you don't follow me on Instagram (which you can do by clicking here, or searching 'maddiemagpie'). I also just find it quite nice on a personal level to reflect back on the week; it kind of goes hand in hand with my other new weekly post '5 things that make me happy' (you can see my previous one here). Now I don't really have an excuse as to why it's taken me 3 weeks to get this up, other than that life just gets in the way! But I'm going to try and be more organised and get these posts ready on a Sunday evening, ready to go live on Mondays. So here's what I've been up to so far in January:

1. Christmas in January: Secret Santa and prosecco aplenty with the girls - it was sooo good to have another Xmas dinner again!
2. Enjoying wearing a bit of colour and browsing River Island's new collections.
3. Finally testing out my lovely new Dior 'Baum' lipstick I got for Christmas and taking some shots for the blog.
4. I Found that Dan is taking me to Paris for my 25th Birthday, so getting a little inspiration from some of our wall art.
5. Enjoying my new glittery Skinnydip iPhone 6 case - a present to me, from me.
6. Blissfully cosied up in bed with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book.
7. Pondering whether to get my hair cut this short...
8. Delicious Costa  catch up with an old friend.
9. A very naughty purchase - all the while adhering to my new 'buy less, buy better' mantra.
10. A wonderful and well spent hour sorting my dressing table into a blogging workspace as well.
11. En route to Reading for Girls Night & hotel times.
12. Beautiful new Topshop sale shoes to be worn on said girls night.
13. Enjoying a delicious soak in the hotel tub with a cuppa before operation face/hair/outfit.
14. Lipstick deciding at Chanel.
15. Glammed up for a night on the tiles.
16. Having fun trialling my new Sensationail kit - very impressed with the results and the longevity of the product!

What has January had in store for you so far?

Outfit - 'Bohemia' Featuring Yumi Direct

haute bohemian trend, Yumi, fashion blogger, outfit, personal style
Today's outfit is hugely inspired by the 'Haute Bohemian' trend that pops up every now and then, and is in full swing again now. Think fur, print, texture, loose and flowing fabrics, sumptuous materials combined with raw and natural fibres...rich, jewel tones juxtaposed with rustic neutrals, intricate embellishments, floor length duster coats and wide brimmed floppy hats...and then throw it all together! Haute Bohemian is a much more luxe and 'polished' take on the hippie, boho vibe that usually comes around each festival season. Designers well known for featuring the Haute Bohemian trend among their collections are Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and Alberta Ferretti, among others.
A boutique brand well known for their slightly ethnic inspired clothing that is full of vibrant colour and quirky designs, is Yumi. I was asked by them to pick 2 items to style into an outfit, and my eye was immediately drawn to this stunning grey embellished shift dress. I knew I wanted to team it with an outerwear piece as the dress is sleeveless and it is just too damn cold to be wandering around and taking photos without layers! I was stuck for choice between a few styles, but eventually decided on this long faux fur jacket as that's when inspiration struck, and I thought it would work really well with the dress to convey that Bohemian vibe. When the coat arrived I saw that it was quite a 'shaggy' faux fur, which isn't very noticeable online, but I was actually really pleased as that style fits in much better with the trend I was planning to emulate; think back to the fur trims of hippie afghan coats and it's not a sleek and shiny style, it's a rough and ready, gypsy traveller kind of look! I accessorised the outfit with a black floppy hat for that traditional boho look, and a pair of suede over the knee black boots, to add a bit of 70's glam.

5 Things That Make me Happy #1

As part of my New Year's resolution list from last week, which you can see here if you missed it, I have set myself the challenge (although it really shouldn't be a "challenge" per se) of reflecting back at the end of each day on what has made me happy, or something to be thankful for. I mentioned in my previous post that I would quite like to turn it into a weekly update on here, as I want to include more lifestyle based posts and also feel it would be a good way to keep the positive attitude, as it's down on paper....ok well not paper...more like floating around in cyberspace but you catch my drift! It's actually been a couple of weeks now since writing that resolution post, so I'm cheating a little here by starting with last week's thoughts, but hoping that can be forgiven? Here goes...

Things that have made me :) and/ or be thankful for:

1. Starting Pilates - I'm really enjoying it and feel like I've finally found a form of exercise I'm likely to stick to!

2. My Son. He makes me happy every. single. day. Even if he's been a little pickle all day, one cheeky smile, or coming over to nuzzle into me, or seeing his whole face light up when he sees me arrive to pick him up from nursery, and delightedly saying 'Mommy' (I'm not trying to be American...that's how it comes out most of the time), will easily push the difficult moments completely from my memory, and I'll be engulfed by love and the strongest sense of pride, all over again.

3. Driving back home from my Mum's at the weekend and witnessing the most beautiful sunset throughout my whole journey. It really was incredible and just made me so happy and appreciative. The trees in the distance were complete silhouettes in front of a rich orange and fuchsia sky - I wish I had been a passenger rather than the driver to take a picture, but it's imposed in my memory which is good enough.

4. Getting glammed up for a rare girls night out! I always love getting ready for a night out - as much as I try my hardest to make a bit of effort in the mornings for the day ahead, I usually only get about 20 minutes (and that's if I'm lucky) to spend on myself, so it's a real luxury to leisurely get ready and do my full makeup routine and pamper myself when I'm going 'out out'.

5. Taking Theo for a stroll down to the park and seeing another sunset, this time as a backdrop to the many swans that grace the water on a regular basis. It was sooo cold so we couldn't stay too long, but it made me happy to see such a beautiful landscape and to spend some quality time with my love - I have Monday's off work so I always love our Mama/ Son days together!

What has made you happy from last week? Comment below or tweet me @maddiemagpie!
